'Aamurusko' is a new Finnish name for an old azalea growing in the Rhododendron valley, probably the 'Pallas' Ghent azalea planted at Mustila in the 1930s.
The new name (meaning aurora) was inspired by the glowing colour of its flowers: orange-red with an orange-yellow blotch on the upper lobe. The scent mentioned in some sources is at most only faint. In the autumn the leaves turn dark red. 'Aamurusko' grows to a height of approx. a metre in 10 years.
