'English Roseum' is an Anthony Waterer hybrid from the 1800s, also known as ‘Roseum Pink’. It has later been registered as an R.catawbiense cultivar and thought to have originated with seed of the hybrid 'Roseum Elegans', well-known for its hardiness. The flowers of ‘English Roseum’ are redder than those of ‘Roseum Elegans’, but otherwise the two varieties are very similar. ‘English Roseum’ grows to about 1.5m in 10 years.
’English Roseum’ has apparently been growing at Mustila since the 1930s. It winters well under snow, but exposed parts suffer frost damage in severe winters.
